Join the Best of the Best at Ranch Hand Festival’s Dutch Oven Cookoff
Calling all chefs! If you’re a whiz in the kitchen and love to show off your skills, entries are now being accepted for the Ranch Hand Festival’s IDOS sanctioned Dutch Oven Cookoff from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 22. The event, which will take place at the Downtown Pavilion, calls for teams of no more than three persons who will prepare one main dish, one bread product and one dessert in a three-pot cookoff.
During the event, all cooking must be done in an approved Dutch oven or similar cast iron cookware. Participants will provide their own Dutch Ovens, ingredients, cooking utensils, and preparation items and all aspects of the entries (including garnishes and marinades) must be prepared or processed solely at the event site. Since samples of food may be provided to festival goers, it is required that all meat be USDA inspected and all food safety measures be taken during the preparation and handling of any food.
Prizes will be awarded to winners of the event with special prizes awarded to “novice cooks” or those who have never cooked in a Dutch oven prior to the cookoff. The team who takes home the Grand Champion prize may also be invited to compete at the International Dutch Oven Society Championship Cookoff at the International Sportsman Expo in Sandy, Utah in March 2015.
Registration for the event is on a first come, first serve basis and requires filling out the application, submitting the $30 entry fee and submitting all recipes to be used during the cookoff to the address on the registration form no later than November 1. Submitted recipes for approval should be typed clearly on an 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of paper and must be received by November 10 to guarantee official registration.
